Cowland loses yellow jersey as riders tumble

Bad luck hit www.cyclingbargains.com racing team for the second week running in round two of the NCRA race series.

Following Rod Freeman crashing in the sprint in week one Ben Jeeves (20) from Syston, Leicestershire was brought down in week two in a series of crashes in the finishing straight. Although unhurt Ben was disappointed as it looked like he would have secured a top 10 place in front of the scratch group who came in some 2 mins behind the crash.

This was not enough to save race leader Mike Cowland from losing his yellow jersey as overall leader despite the efforts of team mates Dave Palmer, Andy Swain and Rod Freeman. There were a number of badly injured riders all over the finish straight as the scratch group came in and included Cath Weiss who was taken to hospital with shoulder and rib injuries.

Mike Cowland said after the race, “Never mind with the Yellow Jersey now held by my old club Fenland Clarion they will have all the work to do to defend it next week – well be back!”
