The team dominates at Ixworth
East Midlands based cycle racing team www.cyclingbargains.com - Infinis - Metaltek put the bank holiday weather behind them and rode to a string of top results this weekend. Jason White opened the tally with 3rd place in a small break at Hog Hill on Saturday whilst team mate Raphael Deinhart policed the chasing bunch and secured himself 8th place.
Slightly nearer to home Mike Cowland showed his sprinting form when he came 7th in the 2nd stage of the Nigel Meason Road Race in Leicestershire behind stage winner Mark Lovett. Earlier in the race team mate Carl Dyson had attacked and stayed clear in a break until the final kilometre but the chasing pack proved too much to hold off.
The following day the dynamic duo of Deinhart and White were in action again in the 82 mile ECCA Senior Championships with attacks straight out of the neutralised zone. Deinhart rode away from the field early to build up a 30 second lead but with over 75 windy miles of racing still to go he sat up to wait for some chasers. Six riders came across to him and a lead of 45 seconds was established. Driving the break Deinhart had little left for the final sprint and secured 6th after a hard day in the saddle. White returned the favour from the previous day with an excellent policing roll in the the main bunch.
On Monday the www.cyclingbargains.com - Infinis - Metaltek Tour Series team travelled to Ixworth for a program of fast and furious Criterium races around the small Suffolk village. After early rain the sun broke through to dry up the roads just in time for the Elite Men's race. With five laps to go Will Fox, Deinhart and White had split the field into a seventeen man break but leaving nothing to chance Deinhart attacked at the bell for the final lap and stayed clear to take the win. First into the final bend having held the chasers at bay came White who then sprinted to 2nd place behind Deinhart leaving Fox to power home in 10th place. Team mates David Palmer and Michael Cowland finished in the main bunch. The format of the race program then saw Palmer and Cowland seeded into a 'B' Final with Deinhart, White and Fox seeded into the 'A' Final. After just 3 laps Cowland broke clear of the 'B' Final race with two other riders to take an early prime whilst Palmer maintained a watching and controlling position at the front of the bunch. Building on his 7th place on Saturday Cowland then sprinted out of the final corner to take the win - a fitting finish to his birthday weekend!
The 'A' Final contained the top 10 riders from the Veteran, Junior, Club and Elite races and with two Tour Series Teams present, www.cyclingbargains.com - Infinis - Metaltek and BMC the scene was set for some very fast race. White, Deinhart and Fox all made the winning break after a series of attacks but it was Fox on his new Reynolds DV wheels who attacked out of the final bend on the circuit with 3 laps to go, only to be caught in the closing 600m of the race at which stage White leapt out of the corner again to secure the third win for the team of the day. All was not lost for Fox though as he crossed the line in 6th place.
Jason White said after the races, "This has been a great weekend of racing with the team and spirits are high as we now look forward to the start of the Tour Series later this month. I am really excited to have gained my Elite licence this weekend and we are in great shape as a team for The Tour Series."
