www.cyclingbargains.com - Infinis - Metaltek Racing Team Press Release 28.07.09
A podium and placings at the Leicester City Centre Circuit Race.
Sunday 26th July saw the www.cyclingbargains.com – Infinis – Metaltek Racing Team, sponsored by East Midlands based companies, in action in the Leicester City Centre Circuit Races organised by Gary Coltman of British Cycling as part of the Special Olympics. On a tight and testing course, made even harder by the constant wind and rain, the team worked well together, narrowly missing out on another “National B” win but placing three of their eight riders in the top ten.
As soon as the flag dropped to start the event, the racing was fast and furious, with riders having to be very attentive; not only of other riders but also of ensuring that they took each corner correctly given the conditions. As riders battled for position to be nearer the front during the first few laps, several riders started to take risks in the corners, resulting in two early crashes which helped to break up the field. By the mid point of the race a seven man group had formed at the head of the race, containing Raphael Deinhart and James Cambridge of www.cyclingbargains.com – Infinis – Metaltek Racing Team, with Rob Orr of www.cyclingbargains.com – Infinis – Metaltek R.T chasing solo behind. As the riders entered the last third of the race, Simon Wilson had managed to escape from the lead group, building up a small but ultimately definitive lead, taking the chequered flag ahead of Raphael Deinhart in second place. Despite both suffering a crash and puncture, James Cambridge came home in sixth place for the team, with Rob Orr securing eighth place to give the team three riders in the top ten.
After the race Rob Orr said “the course was really good, and made much harder by the conditions though this added to the racing, making it much more of a test. After a bad start being held up by numerous crashes I managed to pick my way through the field, but ultimately not quite getting up to the lead group. Like many riders I suffered a crash, though fortunately it was not too serious. I was just glad I had my LAS Istrion helmet for protection. Having raced in the Tour Series this year, I felt that this event was definitely on a par with those races in terms of organisation, and would like to see it on the calendar again in 2010”.
The team continues to compete at the head of the peleton, with riders taking to the start line in the upcoming Premier Calendar races, whilst building a platform for a stronger team in 2010.
