Dyson misses jersey without team affiliation
Leicester based all rounder rider Carl Dyson has just completed a successful 2007 road and time trail season and is now widening his skill set by trying his hand at Cyclo Cross. Carl was the Junior 25 mile Champion back in 2002. He also started mountain bike racing this year where he came 10th in his opening race at Pitsford.
Carl’s road season started in March with a win in his first race, the Ed Taylor Memorial Road race in Suffolk where he won from a bunch sprint. His next race saw him come home second in another exciting bunch sprint in the Evesham Vale Road Race. Carl’s spring campaign was then topped off with a 3rd place in the Northants Cycle Racing Association spring series sponsored by www.cyclingbargains.com.
In his summer campaign of the Northants Cycle Racing Association spring series Carl secured a 1st place at Glapthorn, 2nd place at Middleton and 3rd place at Harrrington but sadly was unable to contest the overall results for the series as the team he raced for was not a member of the association, the overall series having been won by Michael Cowland of Fenland Clarion. At Harrington where Carl was 3rd, Michael finished 5th, at Glapthorn where Carl won, Michael was 2nd and at Middleton where Carl was 2nd Michael turn the tables on Carl by winning.
Also as part of his summer campaign Carl obtained two 2nd places when he rode the Presidents Challenge Road Race at Melton and again a few weeks later in the Ike Saul Road Race.
Now off the road and into the Cyclo Cross mud Carl has started to see some results in the Notts & Derby Cross League. He secured 31st in a field of 103 in his first race and 19th last weekend.
Carl is currently in talks with a number of teams affiliated to the Northants Cycle Racing Association where he looks forward to going head to head with Michael Cowland as they attack the season long spring and summer series. Carl said, “Mike worked hard to win both race series last year and with www.cyclingbargains.com sponsorship won the yellow jersey but I’m convinced I can gain overall victory in 2008 with a strong team.” Carl hopes to announce signing for a new team in the next few weeks.
