East Midlands based Champneys Springs Health Resort recently hosted the prestigious launch of the 2008 www.cyclingbargains.com racing team. The team were also honoured by special guests Tour De France's commentator and former President of the Cycle Touring Club Phil Liggett and celebrity cartoonist Bill Tidy MBE.

The team's new signings are National Clarion Champion Mike Cowland from Kettering who was the highest placed 2nd category rider in the Eastern Region in 2007. Mike is joined by ex Junior National Champion Carl Dyson from Leicestershire, another 2nd category rider. Together with David Palmer they complete the 2nd category line up who aim this year to ride some Premier Calendar events. The team also contains two under 23 riders from Leicestershire, Scott Choucino and Ben Jeeves, both who have gained a number of top 10 places in races as juniors. They join 4 other Leicestershire riders to make up the 9 man squad. The team is supported by local internet retailer Cycling Bargains Ltd, Northampton based renewable energy company Infinis Ltd, Spanish cycle helmet manufacturer Catlike and Nuneaton based printers Mainline Print Ltd.

Team Manger Rod Freeman from Leicestershire said, "Champneys have been a great support to us and provided a first class, relaxing setting for the team launch. Some of the team stayed at the resort over night prior to us riding in the morning. We then showed our new sponsors and team strip to the press and guests before utilising the vast range of facilities at the resort."

A few days later half the team flew out to Alicante for a weeks training and some local racing in the Spain. Carl Dyson took top honours for the team at 38th in a field of over 165 riders. Carl said, "The pace was so much faster than anything I have ridden in the UK but it was a great experience that has left me in flying for the UK racing scene!" The team's first UK race is on 1st March at Middleton near Corby in Northamptonshire where they defend the NCRA championship series won last year by Mike Cowland.
